Dealership and luggage

Postby george » Sat Mar 11, 2006 3:13 pm

My father was a Tucker dealer on the north side of Chicago - Lakeview Motors on Halsted Street. I was wondering, aside from our family records, is there an official record or database of the dealerships formed by the Tucker Corporation?

Also, does anyone know the dimensions of the Women’s Wardrobe Case, Women’s Companion Case, and Man’s Two-Suiter from the Group A Accessories, Plastic Group 2 & 3 luggage?

The Group A Accessories are featured in Tucker Topics June 1948 - http://www.1948tucker.com/page5c.htm

I'm sure there's an official record somewhere - just don't know anyone who has it. TACA, specifically the Tucker Historical Collection & Library, has been compiling a list for several years. hcl@tuckerclub.org

As far as the luggage, I have what I believe is the Plastic Group 2 (based on that same Topics ad). Dimensions are as follows:

14 X 7 X 21
18 X 9 X 21

Height standing on edge X Thickness X Length

Dear tuckercar,

Thank you for the reply...I will email them and provide our family dealership information.

...and thanks for the luggage dimensions...I have the larger size (18 x 9 x 21). Is there a way to identify the difference between the Women’s Wardrobe Case or Man’s Two-Suiter? I've uploaded a couple images at: http://www.1948tucker.com/page5c1.htm

I don't know. Like I said, I just kind of looked at the pictures in the ad and matched it up to the caption.

I believe Indestructo was at one point a part of National Veneer Products Company out of Mishawaka, Indiana. Now the trademark belongs to Chicago Case Company, but they've only been around for 25 years or so.

I guess there is no way to contact the manufacturer of the luggage to get more information. Frustrating because I've always wanted to contact Ad-Craft out of Detroit to get info on the lapel pins.

I wonder who made the ashtrays...
